Paradip: Some 21 hours after the event, the body of the third Russian national, Milyakov Sergey (51), who was discovered dead on a ship on Tuesday, was brought to Paradip Port Hospital on Wednesday.
As per reports, his post-mortem will be performed at the hospital. In the meantime, the Marine Police opened an investigation after reporting an unusual fatality.
At least 22 members of the ship’s crew have already been interrogated in relation to this.
According to preliminary investigations, it was thought that Sergey died of a heart attack. “We learned that he was a member of the cargo ship’s crew. Only after the post-mortem will the reason for his death be determined. According to our initial investigation, he suddenly passed out on the ship. He may have suffered a heart attack,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhilesvhar Singh.
He promised that the police would record Sergey’s post-mortem and keep his body and visceral samples safe. SP Singh continued by saying that the Russian general consulate in Kolkata would assist in getting in touch with his relatives.
Notably, Sergey’s death was the third in a fortnight that a Russian person had been found dead in Odisha. He was the ship’s chief engineer while the M B Aldnah travelled from Chittagong Port in Bangladesh to Mumbai via Paradip.
The Odisha Police was criticised for failing to save the viscera of Russian legislator Antov Pavel or record his autopsy on video. On December 22 and 24, Pavel and his travelling companion Bydanov Vladimir were discovered dead in a hotel in Rayagada.
