7-Year-Old Boy in Critical Condition After Kite String Slashes His Throat in Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Odisha’s Balasore district on Wednesday, leaving a 7-year-old boy clinging to life after a suspected Manja thread, notorious for its sharp coating, sliced his throat while riding a motorcycle with his father.

The victim, identified as Abinash Mahala was travelling near Naharpatna under Sadar police limits when the fateful encounter with the kite string occurred. The string, known for its ability to inflict severe injuries, inflicted deep cuts on his neck and left shoulder.

Locals rushed Abinash to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where his critical condition prompted authorities to transfer him to the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack for specialized care.

“The boy’s condition is still critical,” revealed a doctor at the SCBMCH, highlighting the ongoing battle for Abinash’s survival.

Despite regulations prohibiting its sale and use, its presence continues to threaten unsuspecting individuals, particularly children.
