8-Year-Old Boy Dies After Falling Into 60-Foot Canal in Athamallik

Angul: An 8-year-old boy died after falling into a 60-foot siphon in a canal in Athamallik block of Angul district, Odisha on Tuesday.

The boy, a student of Athmallik Saraswati Sishu Mandir, was reportedly playing near the canal when he slipped and fell into the siphon. He was trapped in the siphon for more than an hour before being rescued by ODRAF personnel. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is a reminder of the dangers of playing near water bodies, especially for young children. Parents should take care to supervise their children around water and teach them about the dangers of swimming in canals and other unsupervised bodies of water.
