Bhubaneswar Mountebank Arrested For Defrauding Two Women Of ₹7.25 Lakh

Bhubaneswar: A man who promised two women lucrative opportunities in multinational companies (MNCs) was arrested for defrauding them of Rs. 7.25 lakh, according to police officials on Saturday.

Subhajyoti Panda, a 34-year-old resident of Bhubaneswar’s Niladri Vihar neighbourhood, has been named as the accused who has been arrested by the police.

It is worth noting that, police had detained him in response to a complaint made by one Puspa Priyadarshini Rout at the Chandrasekharpur police station, on the 5th of February, 2022.

Police claim that Puspa and a friend of hers were looking for work when they met the accused and his accomplice.

They assured both women of lucrative positions in international businesses. Both job applicants vainly provided them a total of Rs. 7.25 lakh (Rs. 2 lakhs in the first phase, Rs. 2.25 lakh in the second, and Rs. 3 lakhs in the third).

Later, both women made their way to the accused’s office and asked the money be returned, where they were allegedly misbehaved with and further, their money was also not returned.

However, both the ladies then reported the incident to the police, and the accused was soon apprehended.
