CJI DY Chandrachud Visits Puri Jagannath Temple

Puri: Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud visited Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri on Friday.

The CJI flew straight from the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) to Puri after landing here on a two-day visit to Odisha to have Lord Jagannath’s darshan.

He was greeted warmly in the pilgrim town by the chief secretary of Odisha, Pradeep Kumar Jena, the chief administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Ranjan Kumar Das, and the Puri district administration.

When he was a judge, Chief Justice Chandrachud had already visited the temple. This is his first trip since becoming India’s Chief Justice. During his homage to Lord Jagannath, he broke down in tears, according to Madhusudan Singhari, a senior temple servant.

The Chief Justice had darshan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra at the main temple. He also went to the temples of Devi Bimala and Laxmi besides other deities on the premises, said Singhari.

On Saturday, Chief Justice Chandrachud is slated to attend a national conference on “Digitization, Paperless Courts, and e-initiatives” at Odisha Judicial Academy in Cuttack.
