Congress Heavyweights Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka & Mallikarjun Kharge To Visit Odisha In January

Sundargarh: In a strategic move to revive its fortunes in western Odisha, the Indian National Congress is gearing up for a high-profile visit by party president Mallikarjun Kharge, along with prominent leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in January 2024. Odisha PCC President Sarat Pattanayak made the announcement during a meeting in Sundargarh, a former Congress bastion, particularly among the tribal population.

This visit follows a recent meeting in New Delhi where Odisha PCC leaders and MLAs formally petitioned the AICC for their presence. The central leadership’s positive response highlights the party’s renewed focus on the region. Sundargarh will be the focal point of the Congress’ efforts to regain its lost ground, aiming to reconnect with its traditional electorate – the tribal communities.

To spearhead this initiative, the AICC has appointed Dr. Ajay Kumar, a former IPS officer and ex-MP from Jamshedpur, as the party’s state in-charge. Dr. Kumar’s vast experience and understanding of the region are expected to be instrumental in the Congress’ revival plan.
