Bhubaneswar: The potential cyclonic storm named ‘Michaung’ is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to Odisha, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by December 3 and make landfall between Chennai and Machilipatnam on December 4. In the wake of this, light to moderate rain is forecasted in various districts on December 3, with an increase in intensity on December 4.

On December 4, heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is likely in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam, with additional rain expected in several other districts. The situation will escalate on December 5 with an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) in specific districts and a yellow warning for others. Squally weather with gusty winds is anticipated in coastal districts on December 5.
Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into deep sea areas, and cautionary signals are set to be hoisted at all ports in Odisha. It is recommended that those at sea return to the coast by December 1.
