Hangzhou Asian Games: Cyclist Dinesh Kumar Becomes 14th Odia Athlete to Join Indian Contingent

Bhubaneswar: Odisha cyclist Dinesh Kumar has been named as the latest addition to the revised Indian contingent set to compete in the Hangzhou Asian Games. This prestigious event will mark Dinesh’s participation as the 14th sportsperson hailing from Odisha to proudly represent India in the 19th Asian Games.

Among the initial qualifiers from Odisha, a remarkable group of 13 athletes were originally selected to participate in this quadrennial continental competition. This elite group includes athletes from various disciplines such as athletics, rowing, ju-jitsu, kayaking & canoeing, football, hockey, and rugby. Notable names from this list include Kishore Jena, Anupama Swain, Pyari Xaxa, Deep Grace Ekka, and Amit Rohidas.

In recognition of their achievements and to support their endeavours at the Asian Games, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has generously announced a financial grant of Rs 10 lakh each for these accomplished sportspersons from Odisha.

This collective representation from Odisha showcases the state’s contribution to India’s success on the international stage. As they prepare to compete in Hangzhou, these athletes are poised to make their state and nation proud with their skills and determination.
