Tesla Plans to Build Battery Storage Factory in India

New Delhi: Tesla is reportedly planning to build a battery storage factory in India. The company has submitted a proposal to the Indian government to bolster the country’s battery storage capabilities by introducing its “Powerwall” technology.

The Powerwall is an integrated battery system designed to store solar energy and provide backup power during grid outages. The government is considering offering subsidies to customers purchasing Powerwall systems to facilitate Tesla’s entry into the Indian market.

Elon Musk has set his sights on establishing a Tesla supply chain in India. The company plans to source automotive components valued at up to $1.9 billion from India in the current year, as confirmed by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. This marks a significant increase from the $1 billion worth of auto parts imported by Tesla from India in the previous year. Goyal revealed this information during his address at the annual convention of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA). Tesla has been in discussions with the Indian government, exploring opportunities to bring its automotive components and electronics chain to the country.
