Several Odisha Districts Brace for Heavy Rainfall Today, IMD Issues Warnings

Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecasted heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha today. The districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nawarangapur, and Koraput are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places, for which an Orange Warning has been issued. Additionally, the districts of Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Boudh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur may witness heavy rainfall at one or two places, with a Yellow Warning issued for these areas.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a cyclonic circulation is persistent over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal coasts. This circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric levels and is expected to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand in the next 2-3 days. Furthermore, another circulation is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal around July 18.

Considering these meteorological conditions, Odisha is expected to continue experiencing wet spells of monsoon rainfall, with isolated instances of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
