Hockey India Announces Cash Prize For Indian Team Ahead of World Cup

New Delhi: Hockey India (HI) today announced financial incentives for the Indian squad and support staff, ahead of the FIH men’s World Cup in Bhubaneswar-Rourkela next month.

HI made the decision to award the team members 25 lakh rupees each and the support staff with 5 lakh rupees each for a gold medal-winning accomplishment at the famous quadrennial tournament. India will start its campaign against Spain on the 13th of January.

If they win a silver medal, the players will receive 15 lakh rupees, and the support staff will receive three lakh rupees. If they win a bronze medal, they will receive 10 lakh rupees each, and the support staff will receive a bonus of two lakh rupees.

The decision was made in a virtual meeting by the HI Executive Board.

“We hope that this announcement would further fuel the already competitive Indian Men’s Hockey Team’s desire for triumph. Finishing on the podium in a Senior Men’s World Cup is not an easy assignment,” the board said.

Notably, India last appeared on the World Cup podium in 1975, when it triumphed against Pakistan to win the prestigious trophy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
