Road Accidents Saw 8.1% Decrease in 2021 As Compared To 2019

The number of road accidents in India reduced by 8.1% in 2021 as compared to 2019. Road accident-related injuries also fell by 14.8%. The Road Transport and Highways Ministry recently released a report that made this revelation.

However, it noted that compared to the same period in 2019, the number of people killed in traffic accidents climbed by 1.9 per cent in 2021. Due to the COVID-19 breakout and the ensuing nationwide lockdown, the nation saw a drop in accidents, deaths, and injuries throughout the preceding year of 2020.

India is dedicated to reducing the number of road fatalities. In order to solve the issue of road safety, the Road Transport and Highways Ministry has developed a multi-pronged plan centred on engineering, enforcement, education, and emergency care.

In order to administer road safety advocacy, it has put into place a program named Grant of Financial Assistance for Administering Road Safety Advocacy and Awards for the Outstanding Work Done in the Field of Road Safety.
