Independent Candidate Joins BJP, Withdraws From Padampur By-Poll

Padampur: After one independent candidate withdrew her papers on Monday, a total of 10 candidates were left in the fray for the Padampur by-poll.

It is pertinent to be mentioned that Rebati Giri, who filed her nomination paper has withdrawn her candidature and joined BJP in the presence of Odisha BJP president Samir Mohanty.

Earlier, on Saturday, the nomination papers of two other candidates were canceled during the scrutiny.

In all, 13 nominations were filed till the nominations ended on November 17. The candidates in the fray after scrutiny and withdrawal include—BJP’s Rohit Pujari, BJD’s Barsha Singh Bariha, and Satya Bhusan Sahu (Congress).

By-election is being held in Padampur following the demise of the sitting MLA Bijaya Singh Bariha.
