Landslide Claims Two Lives In Koraput

Koraput: Two persons were killed in a landslide near the banks of Saveri river in Malipadar forest in Gupteswar panchayat under Baipariguda police limits in Koraput district.

According to reports, the duo was killed while they had taken shelter inside a cave. The deceased have been identified as Selum Dharua (50) and Samaru Dharua (45) of Haldiund village. They belonged to the Dharua tribe, who eke out a living by collecting and selling forest produce.

The incident came to light on Wednesday when some villagers f Malipadar had gone to catch fish in the Saveri river and found the duo’s body trapped under the debris of rocks and soil caused by a landslide.

After extracting the soil, the villagers saw the bodies of Selum and Samaru. They informed the police and the families of the deceased persons about the tragic incident. Today Baipariguda police have seized the bodies and sent those for post-mortem.

According to villagers, Selum and Samaru had gone to the Malipadar forest on Tuesday to gather forest produce. As it rained heavily, they took shelter inside a cave near the bank of river Saveri in the Malipadar forest.
