Legendary Odia Actress Jharana Das Passes Away

Cuttack: Veteran Ollywood actress Jharana Das passed away late Thursday night at her residence in Cuttack’s Chandi Road. She was 82.

Das had been afflicted with old age illnesses for a considerable amount of time. She will continue to live on in the hearts of her fans and followers through of her work on films like Amadabata, Malajanha, Nari, Sri Jagannath, Adina Megha, and Abhinetri. Additionally, she had performed in numerous plays, TV series, and serials.

She began her acting career in 1945 as a child performer with All India Radio, Cuttack, during the pre-independence era. Her followers still recall her lovely voice and the various characters she played. Jharana Das continues to amuse her fans by giving performances on the big screen after her time with AIR. She learned classical dance under the legendary Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Additionally, in 2016, she received the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award for lifetime achievement.

Famous actors and her fans descended on her home as soon as the sad news spread to offer their respects.

Sritam Das, secretary of the Odisha Cine Artistes’ Association, recalled the actress as a friendly and down-to-earth person. “I recall her saying that she began acting when there were limitations on the roles that women could play in plays and movies. Despite the difficulties, she achieved great success in her career. Her passing leaves us with a great loss.

“After the arrival 0f her younger son, a decision will be made about her final rites. Her funeral will be held at Gorakabar in Cuttack, according to Das.
