Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Launches ‘Ama Pokhari’ Project to Revive Urban Water Bodies

Bhubaneswar: Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik on Thursday launched the ‘Ama Pokhari’ project, which aims to revive urban water bodies in the state. The project was inaugurated at Lokseva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar and is expected to effectively address water scarcity by rejuvenating water bodies in a natural and sustainable manner. With an investment of over Rs 120 crore, around 2000 water bodies in 115 urban local bodies will be renovated under this initiative.

The main objective of the project is to develop and enhance water bodies in and around urban areas across the state. Mission Shakti Groups, comprised mainly of women, are actively involved in the rejuvenation process. The project not only focuses on providing clean water but also aims to improve the overall aesthetic appeal of the surroundings and create recreational spaces for the citizens.

Emphasizing the use of natural and organic methods, the project aims to improve the climate of the coastal and surrounding areas, ultimately strengthening the ecological fabric of the cities. By implementing this initiative, Odisha is taking a significant step towards the development of healthy public spaces and ensuring the well-being of its residents.
