Cyclist Crushed To Death By Speeding Truck On NH 26 In Odisha

Balangir: A tragic hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a cyclist in Deogaon on Friday.

The deceased, identified as Maheswar Rana of Sagarpali village in Balangir, was struck by a speeding Hyva truck while on his way home.

According to reports, the Hyva truck was travelling on National Highway (NH) 26 connecting Balangir and Titlagarh when it collided with Rana. The impact of the collision proved fatal, and Rana succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

The accident sparked outrage among locals who staged a protest by blocking the highway. They demanded immediate compensation for Rana’s bereaved family. Police personnel arrived at the spot and managed to pacify the protestors.

Meanwhile, a police investigation has been initiated to apprehend the driver who fled the scene after the accident. Authorities are scouring for eyewitnesses and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the culprit.
