Odisha Sunstroke Deaths Reach 2, Red Warning Extended as Heatwave Rages

Bhubaneswar: Two fatalities attributed to sunstroke have occurred in Odisha, as confirmed by the State Health Department. Following the first incident in Balasore district, the latest casualty was reported in Dhenkanal district.

Health officials have disclosed that 257 individuals across various regions of the state have been hospitalized due to heat-related illness. Sundargarh district reported the highest number of cases at 60, with Mayurbhanj and Khordha following closely with 40 and 36 cases respectively. Notably, 18 patients from Khordha are currently receiving treatment at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Odisha continues to grapple with intense heat wave conditions, persisting for over two weeks. On Monday, Keonjhar recorded the highest maximum temperature at 43 degrees Celsius, trailed by Jharsuguda at 42.8 degrees and Sambalpur at 42.6 degrees. Bhubaneswar registered a maximum temperature of 41.3 degrees Celsius.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over the next three to four days. Several districts have been issued a red warning for severe heatwave conditions.
