Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik To Inaugurate Malkangiri Airport On January 9

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is set to inaugurate the newly constructed Malkangiri Airport on January 9, marking a significant milestone for the region. The successful trial run of a VT-100 flight at the airport today adds to the anticipation.

Featuring a 1,500-meter runway and 30-meter width, the airport is poised to operate nine-seater aircraft in its initial phase, with plans to expand services to accommodate larger aircraft later on. Technical support from the authorities at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar has played a crucial role in ensuring the operationalization of Malkangiri Airport.

Built on a sprawling 94.5-hectare expanse at a cost of approximately Rs 33 crore, the airport is expected to spur rapid economic development in the region. This development follows the successful inauguration of the Gurupriya bridge in 2018 by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, providing vital road connectivity between the cut-off areas of Malkangiri district (Swabhimana Anchala) and the mainland.
