Vigilance Nabs Odisha Government Officer for Bribery, Asset Probe Initiated

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials on Thursday arrested Subhakanta Swain, a Section Officer at the Office of the Chief Engineer, Minor Irrigation in Bhubaneswar. The arrest occurred as Swain was caught red-handed, demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant. The bribe was related to the processing of an application for his brother and the issuance of a contractor license.

Following Swain’s arrest through a well-executed trap, Vigilance personnel conducted simultaneous searches at three locations associated with Swain, exploring potential disproportionate assets (DA). Notably, during the operation, Rs 14,990 was recovered from Swain’s office drawer, with an additional Rs 5,500 found in his possession.

A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station. The investigation is currently underway, focusing on the accused, and a comprehensive report is pending.
