Orissa High Court Orders Relocating Stray Dogs From NLUO Campus

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has ordered the Cuttack Municipal Corporation to relocate all stray dogs from the campus of the National Law University of Odisha (NLUO) within 24 hours.

The order was issued following a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a student of NLUO, Aditya Roy Chowdhury. Aditya has cerebral palsy and a 65% disability. He has been attacked by stray dogs on the NLUO campus 15 times in the past month, and bitten seven times.

The court order said that the stray dogs pose a threat to the life and well-being of Aditya and other students and staff of the university. The court also said that stray dogs are a nuisance and a public health hazard.

The Cuttack Municipal Corporation has been directed to deploy a team to capture and relocate the stray dogs. The team must submit a compliance report to the court within two days.

The court’s order is a welcome step to ensure the safety of students and staff at NLUO. It is also a reminder of the importance of addressing the issue of stray dogs in urban areas.
