Balasore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a visit to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Balasore, Odisha, where he personally interacted with the victims of a major train accident. During his visit, the Prime Minister engaged in discussions with doctors and senior officials present at the hospital.
Earlier in the day, Modi inspected the accident site near Bahanaga railway station and sought information about the incident from senior officials. He also assessed the damage to the train coaches.
The Prime Minister arrived at Kalaikunda Air Force Station in West Bengal on a special plane from New Delhi before proceeding to the accident site in an Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter at 3:40 pm.
The tragic incident, which took place the previous evening, resulted in the loss of at least 288 lives, while approximately 1,000 individuals sustained injuries.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of Odisha, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and several other prominent leaders had previously visited the location and inspected the ongoing rescue efforts.
It is worth noting that this accident involving the Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, and a goods train is one of the most significant disasters in recent Indian history.
