Passengers Stranded as Heavy Rains Cause Rail Track Subsidence in Balasore

Balasore: Heavy rains caused soil subsidence on a section of the Kharagpur-Bhubaneswar railway track in Odisha’s Balasore district, disrupting train services and stranding passengers for hours.

The Bhadrak-Kharagpur Memu passenger train came to a halt near Amara Bridge, close to Haladipada station, as the soil beneath the downline track eroded. Consequently, train services on this route were temporarily suspended, while trains on the upline had to reduce their speed to 10 km/hour.

Several passengers chose to disembark from the trains and walk alongside the tracks to reach their intended destinations.

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) swiftly initiated repair work to address the issue and restore normal train operations. The ECoR is committed to resolving the situation promptly, ensuring the safety and convenience of passengers travelling on this vital rail corridor.
