Utkal University Gets NAAC A+ Grade, Higher Education Department Mulls Reassessment

Bhubaneswar: Utkal University in Bhubaneswar has re-established its excellence by securing an A+ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) under the University Grants Commission (UGC). This remarkable achievement follows the NAAC’s recent visit to the university in late September.

Breaking down the assessment, Utkal University obtained noteworthy scores in various categories: 3.57 in curricular aspects, 3.33 in teaching-learning and evaluation, 3.15 in research, innovations and extension, 3.65 in infrastructure and learning resources, 3.11 in student support and progression, 2.62 in governance, leadership and management, and 3.37 in institutional values and best practices.

It’s worth noting that Utkal University had previously earned an A grade with a final grade point of 3.16 just a few months ago. The university had secured an A+ grade during a previous assessment by the NAAC in 2016.

The recent adjustment in grade sparked concerns among various stakeholders, including educationists, intellectuals, and former students. In response, the Higher Education department planned to file an appeal with the NAAC to request a fresh assessment of the university.

Meanwhile, Ravenshaw University, Cuttack also recently achieved a notable accomplishment, receiving an A++ grade with a final point of 3.58 from the NAAC.
