Akash Deep Likely to Make Test Debut vs England in Ranchi

Ranchi: Young fast bowler Akash Deep, 27, is inching closer to fulfilling his Test dream as he emerges as the frontrunner to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming fourth Test against England in Ranchi.

Bumrah, a vital cog in the Indian bowling attack, has been rested for workload management, opening the door for Akash to potentially make his debut on Friday.

The Bengal speedster has impressed the selectors with his recent performances, particularly in the India A matches against the England Lions. He bagged 10 wickets in two red-ball games, showcasing his ability to thrive in longer formats.

Akash boasts a strong first-class record, claiming 104 wickets in 30 matches at an impressive average of 23.58. He, along with his Bengal teammate Mukesh Kumar, has been a consistent performer in domestic red-ball cricket.

While both Akash and Mukesh were in contention to partner Mohammed Siraj for the Ranchi Test, sources suggest the team management favours Akash based on his recent form and effectiveness in the India A series. Mukesh, despite bowling 12 overs in the second Test against England, couldn’t find many breakthroughs on a flat Vizag track.

The official confirmation of Akash’s debut awaits, but the anticipation is high as he stands on the cusp of representing India in the prestigious Test arena.
