BAN v IND, 1st Test: India Sink Bangladesh To Go 1-0 Up In Series

The Blue Brigade went up 1-0 in the 2-match Test series against Bangladesh as they defeated the hosts by a mammoth 188 runs in the opening test on Sunday in Chattogram.

After starting the day on 272 for 6, Bangladesh added 52 runs in 11.2 overs and lost four wickets in the morning session, needing 513 runs to win. It was simply a matter of formalities for India as Axar Patel scalped three wickets towards the end of day 4 to bring the visitors closer to victory.

India wrapped up the hosts on Day 5 in just 49 minutes. What’s more, they have accrued significant World Test Championship points that will keep them in the running for a spot in the 2023 World Test Championship grand final. While Bangladesh fought valiantly in the fourth innings of the game, they were eventually unable to overcome the challenge.

On Day 5, the hosts did, however, lose Mehidy Hasan (13) to Mohammed Siraj shortly after resuming their innings but skipper Shakib was standing firm in an attempt to delay the inevitable.

However, Kuldeep Yadav joined the party to remove the resilient Shakib Al Hasan (84) whose fascinating innings featured six boundaries and six maximums. After that, Kuldeep and Axar took the remaining 2 wickets for ducks to hand India a comprehensive victory.

The second and final Test starts on December 22 in Mirpur.
