Bumrah and KL Rahul Set for Comeback in Asia Cup 2023: Report

Bhubaneswar: In an exciting development for cricket fans, India will be facing Australia in their opening match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on October 8 in Chennai. Before this highly anticipated encounter, Team India will participate in the Asia Cup 2023. There is positive news regarding the return of key players Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul, who have been sidelined due to injuries.

Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since September 2022 due to injury, while KL Rahul suffered a knee injury during IPL 2023. Additionally, Shreyas Iyer, recovering from a lower-back injury, is still working towards regaining full fitness. As a result, Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav are being considered as potential replacements by the selectors.

Bumrah recently bowled seven overs at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) nets, showing positive signs of progress. Although setting a specific timeline for recovery is challenging, Bumrah’s increasing workload is a good indicator. He will also play practice matches at the NCA next month to assess his fitness level. It is important to exercise caution in bringing back Bumrah, as emphasized by Ramji Srinivasan, former strength and conditioning coach of Team India. Srinivasan recommends that Bumrah acclimatize to match conditions by playing practice matches at the NCA before returning to top-level cricket.

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who are also undergoing recovery at the NCA, are making expected progress. However, no specific timeline has been set for their return.

The return of Bumrah and Rahul would significantly enhance Team India’s chances in the Asia Cup and the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Fans eagerly await their comeback and hope for their successful recovery in the coming months.
