Fit-Again Bumrah Set to Take Field in Ireland T20Is: Reports

Mumbai: India is set to send a second-string squad for the T20I series in Ireland. However, fans can expect to see the return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who has recovered from his lower back stress fracture. Before finalizing his inclusion, Bumrah will undergo testing during the three matches in Malahide. The BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah, confirmed Bumrah’s fitness and potential participation in the Ireland tour.

In the run-up to the World Cup, the focus will be on maintaining consistency in selection, except for the Ireland tour. The senior players, including T20 captain Hardik Pandya, are not expected to be part of the three-match series, with only Bumrah making a comeback.

Shah emphasized the importance of ensuring the well-being of other cricket boards. Despite injuries being common due to the extensive cricket calendar, the BCCI is committed to supporting other boards by touring their countries.

Post the World Cup, shadow tours will commence, with India ‘A’ travelling to South Africa and England Lions visiting India before their five-Test series against the ‘A’ side.

The BCCI top boss also highlighted the need for senior players not currently in the Indian team to participate in domestic cricket. This requirement aims to keep players active and in good form. Shah mentioned that around 80% of the players have already cleared the fitness test.
