Jail Escapee Arrested after 17 Yrs in Gajapati District

Paralakhemundi: An undertrial prisoner, who had escaped from prison during the Maoist attack on the R.Udaygiri sub-jail in 2006, was arrested by police in Gajapati district on Thursday. The arrested man was identified as Purna Chandra Malbisoyi of Malaspadar village under Mohana police station limits.

He was nabbed from the Kirama village.

Taking advantage of the chaotic situation, when Maoists attacked and ransacked R Udayagiri sub-jail and police station in Gajapati district on 24 March 2006, Malbisoi had escaped out of the jail.

At that time he was lodged in the sub-jail as an undertrial prisoner in connection with a violent family dispute.
