Hardik Pandya Pens Heartfelt Note As He Returns to Mumbai Indians

Mumbai: In a major IPL trade, Hardik Pandya has officially rejoined the Mumbai Indians (MI) for the upcoming 2024 season. This move marks a significant homecoming for the Indian all-rounder, who had previously been a key player for MI from 2015 to 2021, contributing to the team’s success with four IPL titles during that period.

The strategic trade saw MI secure Pandya’s services through an all-cash deal with the Gujarat Titans (GT). The negotiations, concluded after the IPL retention window closed on November 26, involved trading Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to acquire the necessary funds for Pandya’s return. Reportedly, Pandya’s annual fee from his tenure with GT, amounting to ₹15 crore, will now be covered by MI.

Pandya’s time with GT was marked by exceptional leadership and performance. Released by MI ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, he was drafted by GT and appointed captain. Under his leadership, GT achieved remarkable success by winning the championship in their debut year, a feat previously accomplished only by Shane Warne’s team. Pandya led the team to the final of IPL 2023, where they narrowly lost to the Chennai Super Kings.

Expressing his excitement, Pandya shared on Instagram, “This brings back so many wonderful memories. Mumbai. Wankhede. Paltan. Feels good to be back. #OneFamily @mumbaiindians.”

MI owner, Akash Ambani, welcomed Pandya back, expressing happiness at the homecoming. He noted Pandya’s ability to provide great balance to any team and expressed hope for even more success in his second stint with the MI family.
