Ashwin Retains Top Spot, Bumrah Vaults into Top Four in ICC Rankings

In the latest ICC bowling rankings released on Wednesday, veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin retained the top spot with 853 rating points. His compatriot, Jasprit Bumrah, rose to the fourth position after claiming six wickets in the opening Test against England.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja secured the sixth spot in the bowling charts and maintains a comfortable lead in the Test all-rounder rankings. However, England’s Joe Root, known primarily for his batting, has climbed to a career-high fourth place in the all-rounder rankings after a noteworthy performance with the ball in the Hyderabad Test against India.

Root’s impressive spin skills, which earned him five wickets in the match, contributed to his rise in the rankings. He now trails Ashwin and Shakib-Al-Hasan, while Axar Patel dropped to sixth place.

In the batting rankings, Virat Kohli is the lone Indian in the top 10, securing the sixth position. England’s Ollie Pope made a significant leap of 20 places to reach 15th after a stunning innings of 196 against India.

Ben Duckett, another England batsman, also improved his ranking, moving up five places to 22nd after his contributions in the series against India. Australia’s Usman Khawaja gained two places to secure the eighth position after a half-century in the second Test against the West Indies.

Following their impressive performance against Australia, three West Indies fast bowlers saw improvements in their rankings. Kemar Roach moved up two places to 17th, Alzarri Joseph climbed four spots to 33rd, and Shamar Joseph, the Player-of-the-Match at the Gabba, rose a significant 42 places to reach the 50th position in the rankings.
