“I’m Ready, Are You?”: Bajrang Punia Challenges WFI President for Narco Test

New Delhi: Ace Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia, in response to the challenge posed by Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has expressed his willingness to undergo a narco test.

Punia stated that Brij Bhushan should also undergo the test, with the entire process being telecast live under the supervision of the Supreme Court. Vinesh Phogat, a renowned women’s wrestler, echoed Punia’s sentiments and added that all the female wrestlers were ready to undergo the narco test to expose Brij Bhushan’s actions towards them.

The protest by top Indian wrestlers, including Rio de Janeiro bronze medallist Sakshi Malik, has been ongoing for over a month at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The wrestlers are demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan, accusing him of sexually harassing female wrestlers.

In support of the wrestlers, a ‘khap panchayat’ in Haryana’s Meham has announced a candlelight march at India Gate on May 23. This will be followed by a ‘maha panchayat’ on May 28.

Previously, the wrestlers attempted to gather support by entering the Arun Jaitley stadium during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match, but they were denied entry.

The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had announced on April 24 that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) would appoint an ad-hoc committee to conduct elections for the executive committee of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). This step aims to ensure an unbiased selection of athletes for international events and allow the WFI to resume its regular operations.
