IPL 2024, GT vs MI: Mumbai Opt To Bowl As Both Teams Eye Winning Start; Check Playing XIs

Ahmedabad: In the fifth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians are set to clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Hardik Pandya is set to lead Mumbai Indians (MI) against his former team Gujarat Titans (GT), led by young skipper Shubman Gill.

Pandya, who previously led GT to victory in their debut IPL season, faces the challenge of revitalizing MI’s performance, aiming to end their title drought since 2020. However, his form and fitness, having not played competitive cricket since October last year, are under scrutiny.

Meanwhile, Gill, coming off a successful season with the bat in IPL 2023, must now balance additional captaincy responsibilities without compromising his batting prowess. His performance could impact both GT’s track record and his future leadership potential for India.

Both teams will miss key players in the opening match. MI will be without Suryakumar Yadav due to injury, while GT will miss Mohammed Shami. However, they have capable replacements in Mohammad Nabi, Romario Shepherd (MI), and Umesh Yadav, Rashid Khan, Spencer Johnson, and Azmatullah Omarazai (GT).
