Joginder Sharma Announces Retirement

Chandigarh: Former India cricketer Joginder Sharma has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket today. Sharma took to Twitter and stated that playing for India was an honour and added that he will be exploring new opportunities going forward.

“My journey from 2002-2017 has been the most wonderful years of my life for it was an honour representing India at the highest level of the sport. To all my teammates, coaches, mentors and support staff: It has been an absolute privilege to have played with you all, and, I thank you all for helping turn my dream into reality,” said Sharma.

“I am excited to announce that I will be exploring new opportunities in the world of cricket and the business side of it, where I will also continue to participate in the sport that I love and challenge myself in a new and different environment. I believe that this is the next step in my journey as a cricketer and I look forward to this new chapter in my life,” he added.

The 39-year-old is best known for bowling the final over of the 2007 T20 World Cup and helping India win the inaugural edition, beating Pakistan by five runs in the final.

The right-arm pacer represented India in four ODIs and as many T20Is. He also represented the Chennai Super Kings in 16 IPL matches, taking 12 wickets. Sharma was a part of two IPL-winning CSK squads (in 2010 and 2011).
