Kapil Dev Takes Charge as President Of Professional Golf Tour Of India

New Delhi: Former Indian cricket captain and World Cup winner Kapil Dev has been unanimously elected as the new President of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). The 65-year-old all-rounder, previously serving as Vice President on the PGTI Board, succeeds outgoing President H R Srinivasan.

Known for his cricketing prowess, Kapil has also made a name for himself in golf, once boasting a near-scratch handicap. His appointment marks a significant milestone in his post-cricket career, blending his sporting legacy with his passion for golf.

“Becoming PGTI President is an honour,” Kapil stated, expressing enthusiasm about working closely with players and spending more time on the golf course. He emphasised his commitment to elevating the sport in India and using his experience to attract new sponsors.

Kapil’s involvement in golf extends beyond administration. He has participated in prestigious events like the Dunhill Links and introduced the Kapil Dev Grant Thornton Invitational, a high-stakes tournament with a ₹2 crore prize pool, to the PGTI Tour.

The cricket icon’s illustrious career spanned from 1978 to 1994, during which he led India to its first World Cup victory in 1983. His record-breaking performance includes 434 Test wickets and over 5,000 Test runs, cementing his status as one of cricket’s greatest all-rounders.
