Kohli Might Open In World Cup, It Is A Definite Option For Us: Rohit Sharma

Mohali: As India is set to put its feet on for the upcoming T20 World Cup, the Men in Blue are holding their hands tight with every aspect.

After Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh hung their boots, the team’s main concern is its middle order but several times India has been seen experimenting with various openers.

Now concerns are with former Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Ahead of the three-match series against the defending champions Australia, India captain Rohit Sharma has said that there is a chance that Virat Kohli might open for India in the World Cup.

“It is always nice to have options available for you. It is important going into a World Cup that you have flexibility. You want the players to be in best shape batting at any position. When we try and do something new, that does not mean that’s a problem,” the Indian captain told the media ahead of the game.

“For us, we understand the quality of all our players and what they bring for us. But yeah, it is an option (Virat Kohli opening) for us, we will always keep that in mind. Since we have not taken the third opener, he opens for his franchise and he has done really well, so it is a definite option for us,” he said.

This would mean that India vice-captain KL Rahul might be put under pressure to perform, otherwise, he might have to make way for the former Indian captain in the T20I line-up. Asked about the same in the Asia Cup, Rahul had snapped at a journalist and asked if he should be dropped from the side.
