The BCCI Central Contract and New Selection Committee are two other topics on the schedule.

India Cricket Overhaul: Top items on agenda

  • Split coaching (Specialised coach for T20 team)
  • Split Captaincy (Rohit Sharma may be asked to step down from T20s with Hardik Pandya taking charge)
  • Review of T20 WC
  • Review of current coaches

Rohit Sharma, who will turn 36 in April, does not have age on his side. The BCCI sees Hardik Pandya as the next T20 Captain.

Rahul Dravid had recently hinted that a tight schedule is taking a toll on him and the team. The BCCI is considering splitting the coaching post since T20 is not producing the desired outcomes. Dravid will continue to serve as the ODI and Test team’s coach, and a replacement may be named for the T20 squad.

However, earlier, Virat Kohli was relieved of his ODI and Test captaincy as the BCCI did not want a split captaincy, thus Virat Kohli was relieved of his ODI and Test captaincy. But the ageing of Rohit Sharma and the need to make plans for the T20 World Cup in 2024 have forced the board to reconsider. Whereas Rohit is expected to remain the captain of the ODI team till the 2023 World Cup, a call on the change in ODI and Test captaincy may be taken after the 2023 WC.

But according to speculations, BCCI is prepared to make the bold choice and name a new T20 skipper. Since there won’t be many T20 matches in 2023, Hardik Pandya may be handed over the team’s captaincy in the format.
