Nitu Ghanghas, Saweety Boora Clinch Gold In Women’s World Boxing Championship

New Delhi: India has won the second Gold in World Women’s Boxing Championship at  K.D. Jadhav Hall IG Stadium New Delhi today.

Saweety Boora defeated her rival Lina Wang of China by 4-3  in the 81-kilogram category. She became the seventh Indian boxer, male or female, to win the World championship.

After a cautious start in the first round, Saweety found her feet and started charging her Chinese opponent, even landing a few clean strikes in a flurry of punches, and won the round 3-2.

Earlier, India’s Nitu Ghanghas defeated Mongolia’s Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg in the finals to win the gold medal in the 48kg category of the World Championship.

She won 5-0 after a unanimous decision. It happened to be India’s first gold in the ongoing tournament.

Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain will also be in action in their finals on Sunday, March 26.
