IND v NZ, 1st ODI: Team India Fined 60% Match Fees For Slow Over Rate

Hyderabad: India defeated New Zealand in the opening one-day international of their three-match series on January 18. The local boy Mohammed Siraj shone in the match, taking four wickets in a run-fest.

However, India failed to complete their overs in time in a tight match that was won by 12 runs. Rohit Sharma, the team’s captain, and the other players have all agreed to pay a fine equal to 60% of the match fees. Indians still had to bowl their final three overs when the allotted time got over and that has resulted in a big chunk of their money getting deducted from the game.

There was no need for a formal hearing, according to the ICC, because skipper Rohit Sharma had admitted guilt to the offence.

The second ODI game will be played in Raipur. New Zealand will be hoping for stronger help from their top-order batters as they prepare for the second game of the series. Regular captain Kane Williamson, and senior fast bowler Tim Southee are both out of the team because they had to return home to balance their schedules.

After taking a beating from Michael Bracewell in the previous game, India may decide to alter their XI.
