U19 T20 WC 2023: India Thwart New Zealand in Semifinal To Book Final Berth

Potchefstroom: India won the first semi-final match against New Zealand at the JB Marks Oval by eight-wicket on Friday, riding the efforts of leg-spinner Parshavi Chopra and opener Shweta Sehrawat to a victory that sent them directly into the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup final.

Skipper Shafali’s call to bowl first was proven by Parshavi who ran through the Kiwis with a spell of 3-20 in her four overs and assisted India in restricting New Zealand to just 107 runs in 20 overs.

In response, Shweta smashed her third half-century and stayed unbeaten on 61 off 45 balls to finish the chase in 14.2 overs. India now awaits the outcome of the second semi-final between England and Australia in order to find out who they will play in the final on Sunday.

Brief scores: India 110/2 in 14.2 overs (Shweta Sehrawat 61 not out, Soumya Tiwari 22; Anna Browning 2-18) beat New Zealand 107/9 in 20 overs (Georgia Plimmer 35, Isabella Gaze 26; Parshavi Chopra 3-20, Shafali Verma 1-7) by eight wickets.
