Final List for WFI Elections Announced: Sanjay Kumar Singh Vs Anita Sheoran for President

New Delhi: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is set to hold elections on August 12, with five candidates vying for four vice-presidential posts. Among them is Kartar Singh, a former two-time Asian Games gold medallist and WFI secretary-general with extensive administrative experience. The other candidates in the fray are Asit Kumar Saha, Jai Prakash, Mohan Yadav, and N Phoni.

For the position of president, the contest will be between outgoing WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh-loyalist Sanjay Kumar Singh and 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Anita Sheoran. Interestingly, Sheoran has the support of six prominent wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshi Malik, who previously led protests against Brij Bhushan at Jantar Mantar. Additionally, Sheoran is a witness against Brij Bhushan in a sexual harassment case.

The official list of candidates, issued by the returning officer Justice (retd) MM Kumar, reveals four contestants for two joint secretary positions and seven candidates for five executive committee posts. The Brij Bhushan camp has filed nominations for all 15 positions and is considered the favourite to win several key posts.

The election for the senior vice-president post will be between Brij Bhushan camp’s ID Nanavati and Assam’s Devender Kadian. The Assam wrestling body was included in the electoral college after the Indian Olympic Association’s approval following a Gauhati High Court order.

The elections will be held for the following posts: president (1), senior vice-president (1), vice-president (4), secretary-general (1), treasurer (1), joint secretary (2), and executive members (5).

President: Anita Sheoran, Sanjay Kumar Singh.

Senior vice-president: Devender Kadian, ID Nanavati.

Vice-president: Asit Kumar Saha, Jai Prakash, Kartar Singh, Mohan Yadav, N Phoni.

Secretary-general: Darshan Lal, Prem Chand Lochab.

Treasurer: Dushyant Sharma, Satya Pal Singh Deshwal.

Joint secretary: Bellippady Gunaranjan Shetty, Kuldip Singh, RK Purushotham, Rohtash Singh.

Executive members: Ajay Vaid, M. Loganathan, Neivikuolie Khatsii, Prashant Rai, Rajnish Kumar, Ratul Sarma, Ummed Singh.
