Women’s World Boxing Championship: Nikhat Zareen’s Brilliant Win in Opening Match

New Delhi: Star Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen registered a remarkable win over Anakhanim Ismayilova in the opening round of the Women’s World Championships in New Delhi on Thursday. She is defending her title. She won her first bout in the tournament with an emphatic RSC (referee stops contest).

This international tournament of Women’s Boxing kicked off with home favourite Nikhat’s bout.  Nikhat, who is unseeded despite being the reigning champion, was at her aggressive best. She showered a flurry of combination punches on her opponent from Azerbaijan.

Nikhat completely dominated the bout and the referee had to give Ismayilova the ‘count’ thrice before stopping the contest in the second round.

Nikhat is competing in the 50kg category. She is also the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist.
