YouTube Music Gets ‘Hum-to-Search’ Feature: Reports

YouTube Music has reportedly introduced a new feature aimed at simplifying song searches for users. Initially spotted in the YouTube Android app in October 2023, the feature is now being extended to YouTube Music. Users have reported seeing a dedicated Song search button within the app, which allows for easy song discovery by humming, playing, or singing.

According to reports, the Song search feature is making its way to both Android and iOS versions of YouTube Music. While some users have already accessed the feature, it’s believed that the rollout may take a few days to reach everyone.

The functionality is straightforward: users can navigate to the search bar in the YouTube app, click the microphone icon, and select the Song tab to initiate a search. Similarly, on YouTube Music, a dedicated icon next to the voice search button streamlines the process.

This feature adds to Google’s existing song identification capabilities found in Google Assistant, Google Search, and the Now Playing feature on Pixel phones. Long-time Android users may recall a similar function in Google Play Music.

In related news, YouTube recently expanded its paid subscription service, YouTube Premium, to include ten additional countries. These countries now offer access to the Student Plan, expanding the service’s availability to a total of 100 countries and regions.
