Heatwave To Hit Odisha From May 21 Amid Thunderstorm Activity: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast indicating a return of heatwave conditions in Odisha for three days starting from May 21.

The IMD has also predicted isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall in Odisha from May 20-24, with an increase in rainfall thereafter. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected from May 25-28, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely in north Odisha on May 24-25.

Hot and humid weather is expected to persist in Odisha on May 19-20, with heatwave conditions likely in isolated pockets from May 21-23. A yellow warning has been issued for hot and humid weather conditions in several districts on May 19-20, and for heatwave conditions in specific districts on May 21-23.

On May 21, heatwave conditions are likely in certain districts, along with thunderstorms and lightning in others. Similar conditions are expected on May 22 and May 23, with heatwave warnings and thunderstorms predicted in various districts.

The IMD has also forecast the formation of a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22, likely moving northeastwards and concentrating into a depression over the central Bay of Bengal around May 24. However, there is no prediction yet regarding the formation of a cyclone.
