Rohit Sharma Slams Star Sports For Breach Of Privacy

Mumbai: Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has publicly accused IPL broadcaster Star Sports of violating his privacy.

The star opener took to the social media platform X, to call out the broadcaster for recording and airing his personal conversations despite his requests not to do so.

In his strongly-worded post, Rohit expressed concerns over the increasingly intrusive nature of cricket coverage, where players’ every move and private chat is being recorded and broadcast, often without their consent. He accused Star Sports of breaching his privacy by recording and airing his conversations, despite him humbly asking them not to do so.

“The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation we are having in privacy with our friends and colleagues, at training or on match days. Despite asking Star Sports to not record my conversation, it was and was also then played on air, which is a breach of privacy. The need to get exclusive content and focused only on views and engagement will one day break the trust between the fans, cricketers and cricket,” Rohit posted on X.

Rohit’s outburst came after his private chat with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) assistant coach Abhishek Nayar went viral on social media. Additionally, a clip surfaced recently where Rohit was seen politely requesting a Star Sports cameraman to mute the audio while recording his conversation with former Mumbai Indians and India teammate Dhawal Kulkarni.

The Mumbai Indians had a challenging IPL season, finishing last in the 10-team league. Rohit Sharma was replaced as captain by Hardik Pandya before the season commenced.
