Pawan Khera apologised unconditionally but issue to be taken to its logical end: Assam CM

New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma broke his silence on the ongoing political drama related to the arrest of Congress leader Pawan Khera for his alleged derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Assam CM on Friday said, Khera had tendered an unconditional apology but the matter wasn’t over.

Sarma Tweeted, “The majesty of law shall prevail. The accused has tendered an unconditional apology. We hope that keeping the sanctity of public spaces, no one will use uncivilised language in political discourse hereafter.”

He also added that Assam Police would follow the matter to its logical end. He also posted the order of the Supreme Court granting interim bail to Khera till February 28. He pointed to the portion in the court order where Khera’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi says his client has tendered an unconditional apology.

The Congress on Thursday claimed its senior leader Pawan Khera was deplaned from a flight to Raipur, where he was going to attend the party’s plenary session in Raipur. The party also claimed Khera was arrested by Assam Police.

Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, IGP L&O and spokesperson of Assam Police, said Khera has been booked on charges of criminal conspiracy and inciting communal disharmony over his remarks targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
