One Terrorist Killed, Another Injured in Encounter With Security Forces in Rajouri

Srinagar: One terrorist was killed and another was reported to be injured on Saturday morning in an exchange of fire with security forces during the ongoing encounter in the Kandi forest area of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir. This fresh exchange of fire took place a day after five Army personnel were killed in an explosion triggered by terrorists in the same area.

“One terrorist has been killed and another injured in operation in J-K’s Rajouri,” the Indian Army said in a statement.

One AK56, four magazines of AK, 56 rounds of AK, a pistol with magazine, three grenades and 1 ammunition pouch were seized from the spot. The identity of the dead terrorist has not been ascertained. According to a defence spokesperson, contact has been established with hiding terrorists around 1.15 am on Saturday and the firing between the two sides was continuing when the last reports were received.

The army had launched an operation to flush out terrorists who were responsible for a recent attack on the army in which five soldiers were killed in Poonch. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Rajouri today and Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande will also accompany him.

The People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), a sister organisation of the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror outfit, has claimed responsibility for Friday’s attack.
