Jharsuguda Bypolls: Voting Begins Amid Tight Security

Jharsuguda: Voting for by-election to Jharsuguda assembly seat in Odisha began at 7 am on Wednesday amid tight security measures.

Voters have started lining up at all 253  booths across the constituency. Voting will continue till 6 pm in view of scorching heat conditions.

Reportedly, a total of 2,21,070 people are eligible to exercise their franchise, including 1,10,320 men, 1,10,687 women and 63 of the third gender.

The fate of all candidates, including Tankadhar Tripathy of BJP, Dipali Das of BJD and Tarun Pandey of Congress, will be decided by voters today. Though nine candidates are in the fray, the contest is mainly between the BJD, BJP and Congress. However, results will be known after counting of votes on May 13.

The by-poll was necessitated following the daylight murder of incumbent MLA and Minister Naba Kishore Das on January 29.
