Team SHINE: BMC’s New Initiative to Improve Cleanliness and Beauty in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has introduced a novel initiative called “Team Shine” (Sanitation and Hygiene Inspection for Neat Environment) to enhance cleanliness and beauty in the capital city. Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das, alongside BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange, officially launched the initiative during a special event.

Under Team Shine, 10 enforcement squads, each comprising five members, will conduct regular visits throughout the city to tackle illegal garbage dumping. These teams, led by retired Army officials, will focus on raising awareness about maintaining a clean environment, and stringent measures will be taken against those who violate these guidelines.

In a recent roadshow, the enforcement squads paraded from Vani Vihar to the BMC office via Acharya Vihar, showcasing their commitment to this cause. The core objective of the SHINE team is to ensure a pristine environment in Bhubaneswar, enhancing the city’s overall beauty. The initial approach involves fostering behavioural changes among residents through awareness initiatives, followed by decisive actions against violators. Fines of up to Rs 10,000 will be imposed on those who disregard the rules.

The members of the SHINE teams have received comprehensive training and will engage with residents in a polite manner to encourage cleanliness. If the rules continue to be violated, appropriate actions will be taken. The emphasis is on fostering a clean environment, contributing to the city’s visual appeal.
