Researchers Develop AI Model to Estimate ‘True Age’ from Chest Radiographs

A team of Japanese researchers has developed an AI model that can accurately estimate a patient’s age from their chest radiographs. The model was trained on a dataset of over 67,000 chest radiographs from healthy individuals, and it was able to achieve a correlation coefficient of 0.95 between its estimated age and the patients’ actual age.

The researchers believe that the AI model could be used to improve early disease detection and intervention. For example, if the AI model estimates that a patient is older than their actual age, it could be a sign of a chronic condition such as hypertension or COPD.

The researchers are still refining the AI model, but they believe that it has the potential to revolutionize the way we diagnose and treat diseases.
